The Car share. In my opinion, it is such a good way to reduce pollution and minimise the rising costs of transportation. But while sharing your car, or travelling in someone else's, can seem like a great idea, there might be a few hiccups or downright pitfalls along the way.

In many cases, it is colleagues who get together and decide to either have one person drive them to work each day, or to share the job in a car-pool.

It is also often the case that colleagues are on friendly terms and sometimes very good friends indeed. This is where money can potentially sour a good friendship.

Pros and Cons of the car share

It is important to establish how much it will cost, whether you will pay by the month or the week and under what circumstances the cost might go up.

In addition, you should be very clear about pick up points together with pick up times.

If one person owns and drives the car, they may also have their own taste in music – so you should be sure you can spend the commute to work listening to the Best of S Club 7 for months on end!

But for all the possible problems, there are many benefits to sharing a car.

Benefits of car sharing

It can be much cheaper than public transport (especially if you fill the car with passengers) and of course much cheaper than driving by oneself.

In the event of a car breakdown, too, it can be useful to have additional people in the car, for advice, moral support, or simply to help push and jump the car if the battery goes flat.

In my humble opinion, if everyone sets their minds to car sharing, we would see congestion drop by a huge amount, pollution will reduce and we would also see our need to use so much petrol reduce too.

If car sharing isn't an option for you, but you don't drive many miles, perhaps consider if 'Pay as you go' car insurance could be a good solution for you.
