An Aston Martin has been hoisted high above the streets of Canary Wharf in London, drawing amazed looks from passers-by.

The promotional stunt took place to celebrate a new deal between Aston Martin and a property development firm.

The model chosen for the spectacle was the 2016 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE Challenger, thought to be worth in excess of £1m. The super car was raised 31 storeys above Dollar Bay.

The Aston was placed onto the roof of a glass tower, overlooking the East London financial district.

Apart from the business deal, the stunt also brings attention to the fact that Aston Martin will be taking part in the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship this weekend.

The racer was taken down later the same evening.

This is not the first time a UK luxury car maker has made the most of London’s skyline in order to launch a new model. In March of last year, Jaguar drove its then-new XF model over a high wire across waters near Canary Wharf. The stunt is thought to have broken a record.

Aston Martin has broadened its interests in recent years. As well as increasing its presence in motor sport – including F1 – the British car maker has re-introduced the Lagonda and has developed its first SUV – the DBX. The recent Vulcan concept car paved the way for the latest flagship model, the DB11, which the firm hopes will help it expand sales globally.

This latest skyscraper stunt serves as a reminder of how ambitious the boutique UK auto manufacturer has become.
