The latest car to emerge from Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations unit has been revealed in camouflage at the Nürburgring test circuit in Germany.

But what makes this Jag so special?

Well, apart from hailing from the UK firm's SVO unit, the XE SV Project 8 is the most powerful road legal car that Jaguar has ever built.

Based on the XE saloon, it boasts a whopping 592bhp.

The engine is comparable to the one found in the F-Type SVR – a 5.0 litre V8 – but it has been uprated by 25bhp, elevating it to the lofty status of most powerful road-legal Jaguar product of all time.

The camouflage seen in the firm’s promo photos does a decent job, but you can still see that the front bumper vents have been expanded, no doubt with a view to keeping that engine as cool as possible.

The enlarged vents also give the car a more sporty, aggressive appearance.

Additionally, the flared wheel arches give the impression of a wider track, while no camo-job in the world could disguise the huge rear wing on the boot.

John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said: "The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar.

"The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable."

Just 300 Project 8s will eventually roll out of Jaguar's SVO Technical Facility in Coventry.

For those eager to know more, the Project 8 will officially be unveiled on June 8. And if you're planning to visit Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, you'll get to see the machine in person.
