Pedestrians in Glasgow's West End encountered an unusual scene on the weekend, when they found a Volkswagen had rolled backwards over a wall and come to a rest on the roof of a Fiat 500.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred in Southpark Avenue on Sunday.
The two owners contacted police before equipment was brought in to remove the VW.
According to a spokeswoman neither car was occupied at the time.
How the VW came to rest on top of the Fiat 500's roof is unclear, but a loose handbrake is a possibility. The car had rolled down a hill with enough force to overcome the wall.
If anything, the incident is testament to the rigidity of the Fiat 500's roof, which appears not to have been structurally damaged by the VW.
Taking care of your handbrake
Glasgow's West End is significantly hillier than other parts of the city, with many residential streets built on inclines. The incident serves as a reminder for all motorists to check that their handbrake is on properly when they get out of their car – particularly if they are parking on a slope.
The handbrake is an integral part of your car's braking system and should be well maintained at all times. If your handbrake is not operating properly, take your vehicle to a garage as soon as possible.
If the police pull you over and inspect your braking system, they may test your handbrake by asking you to pull it, before pushing your car to see if it remains on the spot.
