A startrescue.co.uk story...

Having recently discussed the merits and failings of the cheapest car available to by in Britain – the £5995 Dacia Sandero – it’s only fitting that we turn our attention to one of the most expensive. At £866,000, the McLaren P1 will be one of the country’s priciest rides, but looking at the pictures, it looks worth every penny.

Unlike the entry-level Sandero, the P1 comes with its own stereo – but buyers of this machine will be unconcerned with such a triviality. With an engine that makes such a glorious noise, it would be sacrilege to have Terry Wogan on as you glide around, overtaking Sandero drivers.

The P1 can hit 62mph in under three seconds, and go from 0-124mph in under seven seconds. And the top speed is 217mph. This last figure may disappoint some, since the only comparable production machine to come out of the McLaren stalls was the F1, which could hit an astounding 242.95 mph. And that was way back in 1992.

The F1 remains one of the great supercars, and in terms of speed has only been surpassed by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which hit a whopping 258mph. But let’s face it, it doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the F1, or the P1.

But speed isn’t everything, especially if you want to keep your shiny new P1 dent free, and reduce the chance of having to call your car breakdown cover insurance provider. Not that the P1 looks like the sort of motor that would see you stranded in the middle of nowhere without even Terry Wogan to listen to – unlike that Sandero.
